A Pastor's Tears
Down his face,
his tears they fall.
Hitting the freshly written pages,
his sermon for Sunday.
He grips his podium,
and from his burly eyes he looks.
Out across the sanctuary,
at every vacant chair.
Then from his heart so full of pain,
That's deeply discouraged, torn and bruised.
A cry arises to the heavens,
Up to his Father's throne.
"Oh Father what has happened,
Why did they leave?
Did I do something wrong?"
"I was faithful to preach your words,
And to lift them up in prayer.
I helped them when in need,
I stood with them in trouble."
"I was always there if they needed me,
and I always came when they called.
Now they have left,
and said all I did was wrong."
"Oh Father, the words they said,
they cut me to the core.
They broke my heart,
they made me cry."
"They said that I don't teach them,
That they don't grow.
"They said I am not their friend,
That I am not there when they need me.
They said they wouldn't stand with me."
"Oh Father, what can I do,
Oh what went wrong?
My heart is breaking,
My tears they won't stop.
My wife cries herself to sleep at night,
Oh she is in so much pain.
I cannot make it stop,
I cannot take it away.
Her eyes no longer dance,
The joy from them is gone.
Oh how I wish I could shield her,
And take away her pain.
And Father, Oh Father, my kids,
Oh how they cry too.
I am tried of telling my kids,
Who is leaving next.
I am tired of seeing the tears,
I am tried of seeing their pain.
Every time I look into my daughter eyes,
I see all the pain that is inside.
I am tired of my kids having no friends,
Because each one they've ever had
No longer comes to church.
I am tired of them getting hurt,
And knowing such great pain.
"Oh Father what can I do? Oh what went wrong."
The pastor broke down,
Great sobs arose from his chest.
To his knees he fell,
And then a voice he heard.
"Its alright, I've seen your tears.
I've seen your wives.
I'll be there for you kids.
I will be their friend,
When they have no other,
And I will comfort them when they cry.
I know you hurt,
I know the pain.
I sent my Son and he felt the same.
I saw my Son go through the pain.
So know what how feels to watch the pain of yours.
"I know how your heart aches,
But it is not broken,
It's safely in my hands,
In the shadow of my wings
Cause no one can ever break your heart because you've given it to me."
"So have no fear.
I am always here.
I'll bring you out,
and I'll raise you up."
"I'll dry the tears,
and I'll restore the years.
Do not worry,
You've followed my plan.
Just stay the course.
Keep the faith.
Follow the call,
Teach my people
And see them saved.
Never fear because,
I am near,
and I will always love you.
No matter what it looks like,
Don't fear because I am here,
And Son, I love you."
The pastor, dried his eyes,
And stood to his feet,
He folded his notes,
He closed his bible,
and walked down the center isle.
He turned out the light,
And into the darkness he whispered.
"Thank – you Father, I know that you are here.
I know that you'll bring me out.
"I know you'll be there for my wife,
And be a friend to my kids.
I know my heart and theirs are all safely in your hands.
I am not giving up,
I am going to stay the course,
I am going to go up higher.
I love you, Father."
