I heard his tears

I heard his tears

I came to get my Sunday school lesson,
I was not going to stay very long.
I didn’t think anyone would be there,
But someone was.

As I entered the church,
And I went to get my lesson.
The closer to the sanctuary I got,
The louder some crying I could hear.

I went near the sanctuary door,
And the crying became loud.
And a voice I could hear as well,
It was my pastors.

Tears came to my eyes,
As I heard the words he spoke.
He said “I loved them Father,
I’ve given my life to reach them.”

My heart ached as I heard him,
And I could hear all the pain in his voice,
And I knew the reason for his tears,
The reason for his prayer.

A few families in our church,
They got mad.
They said some mean things,
And they left.

My pastor continued on in prayer,
I could not believe my ears.
I could not believe,
that he could pray as he did,
I could not believe he was not angry.

He prayed for the families,
The families that had left.
He prayed for each family member,
By name.

Then he went on to pray.
Pray for every family in the church.
I was so amazed,
That he could pray for those that hurt him.

My pastor finished his prayer,
I knew he would be coming out.
I waited,
I wanted to see him.

He came out of the sanctuary,
He was surprised to see me.
“Did you hear me?”
He asked.
”Yes.” I said,
“And I cannot believe that you prayed for them.”
“I love them.” He said,
“But they hurt you.” I cried.

“Yes they hurt me a great deal,
but I still will pray for them.”
“Why?” I asked him.
“Simple, Jesus told me to love people,
and he told me to pray for those that hurt me.”

“Still, it has to be hard, so why do it.” I pleaded,
“Because, Jesus loved me so much that he died for me,
People hurt him, they called him names, and nailed him to a cross.
So yes, people may hurt me, but my God loves me more!”
